Alex Albrecht says goodbye.
Well, for those of you who've followed any of my past blog posts, you're well aware of many of the STUPID decisions made by Comcast G4TechTV. If you missed the 06/17/2004 Wired News article, "TechTV Fans Mad As Hell", go ahead and read it now to get up to par on this issue. Also, take a few minutes to read several of my previous posts about TechTV. Now, about the most recent events...
One of the co-host of The Screen Savers, Sarah Lane, wrote in her November 11, 2004 blog post:
PS- I want to add just one more (important) thought here. Alex, Dan, Yoshi, Martin, Laura, and the producers we lost today from TSS and Unscrewed are all amazing, talented, funny, and incredibly bright people. I have no doubt that they are all headed for bigger and better things. Class acts, all y'all. This was only one of many posts and publications about yet another of G4's latest [so called] upgrades to their network. The main host of The Screen Savers, Kevin Rose, had this to say in his 11/11/04 blog post entitled "Network changes at G4:
Today many of my friends were let go as the network made changes to revamp for new shows. Unscrewed was canceled, and The Screen Savers is being revamped. More to come soon…Alex Albrecht, TSS co-host who replaced Patrick Norton, made mention of the G4-House-Cleaning (firings) the day it happened in his 11/11/04 blog post entitled, "TSS is DEAD..." (picture of Alex saying goodbye located at the top of this post). Alex briefly commented on how smoothly G4 fired him and several others by saying:
Well I've officially been let go... along with a bunch of other people from TSS and three other shows. Kevin and Sarah are the only ones left on screen and I don't know what they are planning to do with them. The Screen Savers as you know it is GONE! We were rounded up today at 11am and told to be out of the office at 3pm... very smooth...My big question to all of this is: G4, what in the world are you thinking? Maybe I'm just too naive when it comes to big business, but the decisions you've made lately with regard to TechTV and its employees stoops to the lowest depths of ludicrous insanity! The people you have in your company's upper echelon must be smoking crack or doing way too many lines of crank. That's all I can think of that even comes close to any kind of reasoning for the stupid decisions you've made over the last few months!
One thing I do know is there are countless thousands of avid fans who're nothing less than pi**ed off over this merger. Really, it's no longer about the shows anymore, but now it's about what Comcast G4 does to their OWN people -- people we've all come to love and appreciate. To all of you employees who were a part of the wonderful legacy called ZDTV - TechTV, my prayers and best wishes go out to all of you!
