We had someone (who goes by the name of Dan) at our Long Live TechTV Yahoo Group posting a series of posts telling everyone how good G4TechTV is now compared to the original TechTV before the merger. This person also let everyone know that we all need to quit whining and "DO SOMETHING".
After receiving several emails from other members expressing how they felt about this Dan guy saying what he was saying (not only about TechTV, but also about the members of the group as a whole), and also how they believed he was "planted" into our group by G4 itself, I realized the need - as the owner of the group - to go read all his posts and address the situation on the board.
After reading my own reply, I thought it worthy enough to publish here in my blog. For those of you unaware of the events that've transpired over the last couple months, I hope this sheds a little light on WHY so many people became upset when the "so-called" merger took place on May 28, 2004. This is what I had to say as I replied to what he had said.........
Hey Dan, I've been following your posts, and I feel I'm ready to interject some of my views now. First of all, let me say that I have reiterated to the members here at LLTTV that if you're going to convey negativity about G4, do it in a mature and rational manner. Oftentimes it's hard to say something negative in a positive way, but we can at least be considerate of our "fellow members" while spewing out our feelings about this (so called) merger. With that said, I'll proceed in responding not only to one particular post, but summarize all of them here in as condensed a version as possible.
You said, "I don't think they are finished with their remodelling. I'm not sure we can consider it misguided yet. Nobody really seems to know what they're plans are."I, for one, couldn't care less about what THEIR plans are in the FUTURE, however, I DO care about what they've DONE, and HOW they went about it, in the very recent past. Someone, whom we all respect to the highest degree (Leo Laporte), was "phased out" of an empire that HE had a tremendous influence in creating because of, primarily, his age. Granted, there may be other reasons I'm not aware of (which I'm sure is the case), but from what I can see, it was primarily an age issue. If I'm wrong, I stand to be corrected.
Also, when a "merger" goes into effect, two parties, entities or corporations COMBINE or UNITE their forces and interests TOGETHER. When they proclaimed that a merger was going to happen - prior to the 28th of May, 2004 - and then they TERMINATED the amount of people as was fired shortly thereafter, is not only a LIE, but it's a miscarriage of justice!
Don't urinate down my back and then tell me it's raining! I am smarter than that, and I'm sure many of the people within this group are just as smart. Evaluating word definitions, even "takeover" wouldn't qualify as a proper description of what transpired, but rather "hostile takeover" would be more accurate. To call it a "merger" is nothing short of an outright lie!
There are other issues to consider in HOW G4 managed their so-called (can you see now WHY I always prefix this whole merger ordeal with "so-called"?) merger, but these two issues alone are enough for me, personally, to NOT care - in the least - with knowing what their plans are for the future!
TOO LATE! Someone can beat ME up and we go in and have another beer together, but that someone beat up the PEOPLE I LOVE, and there's NO MORE buddy/buddy program after that! When G4 (OK, Comcast, G4, whoever was responsible) did what they did to Leo Laporte and 200+ employees of TechTV - IN THE WAY THE WENT ABOUT IT -, they did something to ME! Don't hit my friend and then say, "Well, I didn't touch YOU." If it was done to my FRIEND or FAMILY, it was done to ME!You Said, "Don't get me wrong. I loved TechTV and it's very nostalgic to look at what it was and all the history behind it. However, I say "wait and see" before just crossing our arms, kicking our legs and turning the channel."
You say, "wait and see". Wait and see WHAT? More of the same of what I've seen already? NO THANK YOU! I've ALREADY crossed my arms, kicked my legs and TURNED THE CHANNEL!
You don't work for Comcast? Well, that's good to know! But even IF YOU DID, you would still be welcome here in this group because you at least share your opinions in a mature and rational manner. You said, "I dont work for Comcast. Jeeze... I just happen to be someone who doesn't jump to conclusions based on information I don't have. I see people whining on this forum and not taking action. Maybe if you let Comcast know what you want, support the shows you like, then maybe something might come of it. But sitting around whining about it accomplishes nothing. This isn't a flame...its someone saying DO SOMETHING."
I don't happen to be someone who jumps to conclusions based on inadequate information either. I have ENOUGH "information" just from what I've WITNESSED over the last two months to arrive at my present conclusions. I mean come on, even a good stupid mule will quit coming to the feed trough if everytime it does, you hit it in the head with a stick. How much MORE information do I need?
I, and I'm sure many others also, have let Comcast know what I want, but apparently it hasn't done any good. I would show support for the shows I like, but how can I when they are all bad?
You know Dan, I haven't noticed much whining as of late. This forum isn't filled with a bunch of "whiners". I've noticed the trend has changed to more of a "Help Forum" than anything. Moreover, to say we are "not taking action". Interesting.
What, may I ask, do you call all this that is happening here at Long Live TechTV? Nothing? Nada? Zilch? Zero? Look around and answer me, can you honestly say that all of this that has been created within a short two month period of time is the result of a bunch of whiners who're taking no action? You say, "DO SOMETHING." I reply with, "WE ARE!"
Sincerely Expressed by
